DEPARTMENT OF HINDI
BRIEF HISTORY
The Department of Hindi, B. Borooah College was established in 1972. Initially the subject was taught only at the H.S. Level. In the year 1992 Gauhati University accorded permission to the Department to teach Hindi as an MIL at the degree Level. From the 2007-08 session, students were allowed to take Hindi as Major subject privately under Gauhati University. Hindi as a major subject has been regularized from the 2010-11 session. The Department annually organize a Lecture program on Hindi Divas. Hindi department also organize one or two certificate courses to enhance students career prospects and also to develop Hindi skill. To improve writing skill of students ‘MANVAKTA’, a handwritten magazine is published yearly. The students also prepare a wall magazine annually named as ‘NAVONMESH’.

The Department has two permanent faculties and both of them have a Post Graduate Diploma in Translation beside Ph D Degree. The department has a retired professor who is a guest faculty and has 30 years of teaching experience.

LIBRARY
The Department has a library where it has a good collection of books. In this library there are around 500 books of Hindi. These includes books related to Hindi Poetry, Hindi Story, Hindi Essay, Hindi Novel, History of Hindi Literature, books on famous Hindi writer, Hindi Grammar, Western Poetics, and Indian Poetics.
