Profile

The history of the Department of Physics, B. Borooah College dates back to the year 1964-65 when the department vide EC Resolution No. 4/77/(b) dated 08.06.1966 started the Pre-University Course which is known as Higher Secondary (HS) Course under Assam Higher Secondary Education Council from the year 1985.

The department also started offering Physics as a subject in the General/Pass Course of Undergraduate courses of Gauhati University from the year 1965-66 vide Gauhati University EC resolution No. 6/125(f) dated 16.07.1965, Letter No. G/EC/2/65/16995 dated 10.09.1965.

Undergraduate Honours course in Physics in the department started from the session 1978-79 vide Gauhati University EC Resolution No. 335/15/79 (31) dated 05.07.1979 which came to be known as Major Course from 1986.

Presently, the department boasts of a remarkable journey in imparting quality education in Physics, building a strong theoretical and experimental base of the students of the region in specific and the entire North Eastern region in general. Several alumni of the department have moved on to pursue higher studies in Physics and have made a mark for themselves in the academic map of the region and nation.

The department possesses a Departmental Library and well equipped laboratories for the FYUGP program under Gauhati University. The Department also started implementing a Departmental Online Portal (http://bborooah.in) from 2014 onwards to help students and teachers alike in smooth functioning of the departmental activities like student enrolment, student activities, records of achievements of students, library, laboratory, student database, alumni database of the department.

Mission:
1) To convey basic knowledge and information of the subject to the young generation.
2) To motivate the young generation for higher studies and research in important field.
3) To motivate the young generation for skill development and innovative works.
4) To develop useful man power.
5) To produce efficient and cultured citizen for building a prosperous nation.
6) To maintain punctuality and strict discipline.

Vision:
1) Use of recent technology for constant contact with the students to give basic knowledge and information
2) Selection of interesting and innovative project works in last semester to motivate the students for higher studies and research
3) Establishment of well equipped laboratory for experimental skill development.
4) Increase the number of good quality books in the departmental library to enable the students acquire correct knowledge and information
5) To impart honesty among students towards physics and to their present and future duties.
