Sanskrit was introduced at intermediate level in the year 1943. Then it was introduced at undergraduate level in the year 1953. Major course in Sanskrit was introduced in the year 1998.
Department of Sanskrit conducts seminars, lectures and popular talk etc by illuminating personalities of Assam to acquaint the students with the various topics.
A departmental library has been maintained. There are about 100 books, which includes textbooks and reference books. Dr. (Mrs) Kalpita Bujarbaruah is the teacher in-charge of the library. Books are issued every day in the department.
